Who’s Driving Your Bus? November 3, 2005

Taking responsibility actually empowers us to direct our lives rather than be victims of circumstance. If you are blaming your poor health on genetics, you are stuck living, as Thoreau said, a life of quiet desperation. If you are living below your potential because of “them,” you are a victim and doomed to a life of disappointment.
If, on the other hand, you take responsibility for all the conditions in your life, the desirable and not so desirable, you are then in a position to change them.
It is important to realize that whether you take responsibility or not, you are always accountable for everything in your life. Whatever the cause of your circumstance, you are living with it so why not be “driving the bus?” You might as well take ownership of your life and gain the power to change those things that are within your power to change.
By getting involved and employing a technique I call GOYA
(Get off your _ _ _), you can help determine the quality of life you and your family experience.
There is a powerful prayer, written by Reinhold Neihbor, that has helped me determine where to place my energies. It says, “God grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference.”
Have the courage to change those things you can change. If you take the time to get involved with your life and learn what is happening around you, you can become the true “master of your destiny.”
The next step is action. Get involved. Go out and do something. Get in the game of life. You’ll be glad you did.

I enjoyed reading your articles and like the GOYA approach! I am all for exercise and doing something about your circumstances and life. As a 58 year old Baby Boomer myself I have always been mindful of exercise and a sensible diet. Because of my past exposure to the Dutch Marines Special Forces, I have always been very aware of physical exercise in combination with how to control your mind and a proper diet. After more than 20 years of running my own Accountancy practices, I became a fitness instructor at 53. I have developed the 16 Minute Boomerang GYM, which is a low impact exercise regime which consists of four, 4 minute workouts with NO floor exercises. It has some good shoulder loosening exercises and is ideal for the Arthritis and Osteoporosis sufferer to get some exercise back into their lives. It has been tested by the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia to be 50% more effective than walking and works the whole body and also stimulates the right and left hemispheres of the brain for increased coordination, balance and concentration. It uses the Boomerang shaped Resistance Exerciser to work the upper half of the body, a “Lymph Pump” action movement to work the lower part of the body, a Deep Breathing technique to clear unwanted fat and improve energy and consists of a 70 minute instructional and workout quality DVD with beautiful Australian scenery and is accompanied by especially composed Australian nature music with a beat (It includes the sounds of the Australian Aboriginal Didgeridoos, Whip and Kookaburra birds) A world’s first!
The BG is an exercise regimen to START the Baby Boomer exercising their body again! I also include my just finished book called Emotional Freedom as part of the package to help people overcome self sabotage when it comes to exercise and diets. Visit my website http://www.boomeranggym.com
